Italy Today offers traditional, mouth-watering creations, all made with the freshest ingredients available, and a complexity of flavors so you can sit down and enjoy a true Tuscan meal. Italy Today not only serves authentic Italian dishes, we also have many one-of-a-kind, original recipes filled with a bold mix of Italian cheeses, meats, seafood, all accented with fine Italian olive oils and even some secret ingredients to surprise and delight even the youngest of pallets.  Italy Today is a local restaurant where you can bring your sweetheart for a romantic dinner for two, your parents for the weekly family dinner, your kids after one of their soccer or baseball games, or just drinks and dinner with your business associates.  We have been a landmark in Miami Lakes, on Main Street, since we opened in 2004 and we have just completed a décor renovation, including new tables and seating arrangements.
 
With the creative genius, and vision of its owner and Executive Chef, Martin Cardenas, Italy Today is the place to have a healthy meal, with a mix of grains, grilled meats, vegetables, nuts and even fruit, to round out our reasonably priced menu.  Whole wheat and gluten free pasta is available upon request.  So sit back and allow our efficient staff to serve you our flavorful cuisine and let yourself be transported to Italy.  On weekends we bring in entertainment for your enjoyment, so sit inside or at one of our two outdoor patios (which are open daily for lunch and dinner) and listen while musical artists create their own form of musical magic.

Italy Today now also has a banquet facility which can accommodate larger events. This large private room can be reserved for a business function, a personal celebration, or an intimate gathering. This banquet room can be redecorated to accommodate your personal touch and needs. Whether you are planning a shower, a wedding, an anniversary celebration, or another important event, these details and enthusiasm for your special event, guarantees to all your guests an unforgettable experience. If you need a larger event, that cannot be accommodated in our private room, we can cater your event at another venue and bring everything to you. We take great such pride in the weddings, corporate events, and other special occasions that we have catered that we give you our promise we will exceed your expectations.

About our Executive Chef and owner, Martin Cardenas
In 2004, Martin felt the need to learn more about the Italian culinary culture.  So off he went to Italy for months with the goal of learning about Italian cuisine so he could eventually open an Italian restaurant.  Martin spent time learning to cook, true, Italian food, from the masters in Italy. Some of this training was in the small traditional kitchens of Italian grandmothers and small old fashioned restaurants all over Italy.  Martin felt this was the best way to learn about true Italian cooking.  He spent months cooking all over Italy, specifically he spending the most time in Elba, Luca, Pisa, Florence, Bolzano, and the area of Piedmont. The result of this sabbatical is, Italy Today, a second, unique, and successful restaurant to add to his list of accolades.  Italy Today is also located in Miami Lakes on Main Street.  Martin's other restaurant; Cancun Grill is also located in Miami Lakes as is his catering company, Crazy Fork Catering & Events.
 
Martin Cardenas Chef
Martin Cardenas came to the United States in 1977, with a dream and a plan.  He started working as a dishwasher at El Torito Restaurants in California.  It wasn't long before they realized his potential and moved him to line cook, and then chef.  Martin spent the next few years opening more than a dozen Mexican restaurants all over the country for this large company.  In this capacity he was responsible for everything from the foundation of the to the food of the restaurant.
 
Martin then moved to the hotel industry where he became a banquet chef, then executive chef and later opened a hotel and restaurant in the keys for the same company. After opening and running so many restaurants for others, he decided it was time to open a restaurant himself.
 
Chiles Mexican Restaurant & Cantina was born, in January 1988, with a lot of hard work, and a little money Martin had saved up.  Chiles was such a success that he was made an offer to sell that he could not refuse. Martin then moved to Miami Lakes in 1990 and Cancun Grill was born.
 
During the running of Cancun Grill, Martin also found time to go to Johnson & Wales University, to work on and complete his Chef's degree and even taught and gave some seminars at the University.
 
Any day of the week, if you stop by Italy Today or Cancun Grill, you will most likely run into Martin enjoying a meal with anyone of his clients, who he calls friends!
